THE BEST GUACAMOLE YOU WILL EVER EAT

I’m a guac fan! Especially when the avocado and the rest of the ingredients are super fresh. Do you make homemade guacamole? You really should try this recipe!

HOLIDAY BEEF BRISKET

I had this yummy brisket for Christmas dinner! It’s a great slow cooker recipe when you have a crowd or need a company worthy meal and don’t want to fuss. It will only look and taste like you did!

SCRUMPTIOUS SUMMER RHUBARB GALETTE

We have rhubarb growing in our raised bed garden. It’s a delicious, tart vegetable that eats like a fruit. Rhubarb is the perfect pie filling, jam and sauce. I first had it at my paternal Grandmother’s farm in Missouri when I was a little girl. It’s tangy and has a strawberry kind-of flavor.

SUPER EASY FASNACHTBALLS

Easy peasy and so so fun to make and eat. Start with refrigerator pizza dough in a roll and see how it transforms into these sweet donut balls. I make this on Shrove Tuesday… the day before Lent.

CHRISTOPHER’S SHEPHERD PIE

One of my son’s favorite dishes. Shepherd’s pie is the ultimate comfort food… and a one dish meal! I’ll tell you a little secret… I hate peas! So if you are not a pea fan you can use any other hearty veggies like carrots or pearl onions.

If you want to gourmet it up, use ground lamb, round steak, cremini mushrooms or some red wine.

VERTICAL APPETIZER

I think presentation counts! Elevate (pun intended) a simple cheese tray into something so so pretty!

FEED A CROWD FRENCH BREAD PIZZA

Any time I serve french bread pizza I get rave reviews. This is such a universal favorite. Don’t tell anyone just how easy it is to make!

THE BEST COLESLAW YOU WILL EVER EAT

Coleslaw gets a bad rap. This colorful side dish is creamy and crunchy and so good!

My Nani’s rice is not your regular rice dish. My grandmother made this and I’m sure her mother did too. I would say if you try one thing in this post, this should be it!

FAQs

What is a narrative recipe format? ›

This was not uncommon, as catsup, ketchup and catchup were made with many non-tomato ingredients.) A narrative recipe has two just parts: title and method & ingredients. Sometimes — like in this recipe — the author might add some comments about how to use it, which will be in the main block of text.

What are the 4 required parts to have when writing down a recipe? ›

A recipe really only needs either ingredients or directions ( the preparation method) to be considered complete. At a minimum most recipes have a title, ingredients list, and preparation method. If you need a more robust look at recipe writing we highly recommend The Recipe Writer's Handbook.

What is a beginner chef called? ›

A commis or junior chef is an entry-level chef who works under chefs de partie. Since they are often kitchen professionals who have only recently completed or are still undertaking culinary training, they shadow station chefs to learn more about kitchen responsibilities.

How to create a unique recipe? ›

On the same note, adding or removing ingredients in a dramatic way would help make the recipe your own. Pro tip: When it comes to herbs and seasoning, simply increasing or decreasing the amount you use doesn't make the recipe an original. But trading cinnamon sugar for Old Bay definitely would be a unique twist.

What kind of text type is a recipe? ›

Instructive texts

An instructive text is a text that instructs or tells you how to do something. A recipe wants to instruct you how to cook something. A leaflet with a piece of furniture wants to tell you how to put it together or take care of it.

How do you organize written recipes? ›

If you tend to save recipes from magazines as well as handwritten recipe cards, sort them into a three-ring binder. Use tab dividers and plastic page protectors for both full sheets (for pages from a magazine) and divided sheets (for 3-by-5-inch recipe cards).
