PURPOSE

The UAS Pilot, under general supervision, conducts general flightand pre-flight duties to accomplish the center's testing anddevelopment plans, and to provide flight services to support datacollection for Unmanned Aircraft Systems emergingtechnologies.

Level 1

RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations: 50%

  • Conduct all flight planning and pre-flight activities requiredto analyze, understand, and execute flight missions in accordancewith the prescribed task and purpose of the mission.
  • Perform pre-flight inspection prior to scheduled mission,including but not limited to checking existing and forecastedweather conditions for the flight, checking weight and balance forany included payloads, and determines aircraft performance based onanticipated aircraft and environmental conditions to ensure thenecessary margin of safety.
  • Inspect, clean, and prepare aircraft at conclusion of eachflight.
  • Remotely pilot vehicle to determine compliance withspecification and operational suitability during engineering testsand flight test/demonstration support through specificallyprescribed tests and maneuvers.
  • Develop and verify procedures for use with new aircraftfeatures. Develop operational and safety procedures.
  • Conduct demonstrations and participate in operational andexperimental ground and flight tests of assigned UAV(s). Representthe organization with commercial customers.

Program Management: 50%

  • Complete all forms and records prior to flight missions,ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures andregulatory requirements
  • Maintain aircraft logbook and maintenance records
  • Document items necessary for billing of services and formaintaining a continuing record of aircraft historical data at theconclusion of each flight
  • Record and report any aircraft maintenance and/or aircraft,ground control station, and hand controller mechanicaldiscrepancies for future maintenance action
  • Maintain physical security of all aircraft, computers, groundcontrol stations, and organizational property required to conductflight operations
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Level 2

RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations: 35%

  • Plan and execute aerial missions while acting as SupplementalPilot or Pilot-In-Command of aircraft.
  • Develop, construct, and maintain new unmanned aircraft systemsto meet customer needs.
  • Adheres to operational and safety procedures as an element ofthe management program; ensures compliance of the safetyprogram.
  • Perform pre-flight inspection prior to scheduled mission,including but not limited to checking existing and forecastedweather conditions for the flight, checking weight and balance forany included payloads, and determines aircraft performance based onanticipated aircraft and environmental conditions to ensure thenecessary margin of safety.
  • Perform as post-flight liaison with maintenance and engineeringrepresentatives.
  • Inspect, clean, and prepare aircraft at conclusion of eachflight.
  • Remotely pilot aircraft to determine compliance withspecification and operational suitability during engineering testsand flight test/demonstration support through specificallyprescribed tests and maneuvers.
  • Develop and verify procedures for use with new aircraftfeatures. Develop operational and safety procedures.
  • Conduct complex and detailed analysis and extensive research ondata and reports results to management.
  • Conduct demonstrations and participate in operational andexperimental ground and flight tests of assigned aircraft.Represent the organization with commercial customers.

Program Management: 35%

  • Responsible for providing oversight and guidance to programstaff in the collection, review, and validation of data forclients.
  • Complete all forms and records prior to flight missions,ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures andregulatory requirements.
  • Maintain aircraft logbook and maintenance records.
  • Document items necessary for billing of services and formaintaining a continuing record of aircraft historical data at theconclusion of each flight.
  • Record and report any aircraft maintenance and/or aircraft,ground control station, and hand controller mechanicaldiscrepancies for future maintenance action.
  • Maintain physical security of all aircraft, computers, groundcontrol stations, and organizational property required to conductflight operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Management: 30%

  • Supervise the maintaining and updating aircraft andaeronautical charts. Document items necessary for billing ofservices and for maintaining a continuing record of aircrafthistorical data at the conclusion of each flight.
  • Supervise the recording of any mechanical discrepancies forfuture maintenance action and secures the aircraft.
  • Manages personnel actions to include time reports, leaverequest approvals, and annual evaluations, ifapplicable.
  • Provides appropriate professional development opportunities forfacilities staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

LEVEL I

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • One (1) year of relevant experience.
  • Additional education/experience may be used as a substitutionfor the minimum requirements:
    • HS Diploma or GED and five (5) years of relevant experience,OR
    • Associates degree and three (3) years of relevantexperience

LEVEL II

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Four (4) years of relevant experience.
  • Additional education/experience may be used as a substitutionfor the minimum requirements:
    • HS Diploma or GED and eight (8) years of relevant experience,OR
    • Associates degree and six (6) years of relevant experience,OR
    • Masters degree and two (2) years of relevantexperience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Holds and maintains a current Part 107 Certified Remote Pilotcertificate.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current or prior airline, commercial, or military pilotexperience.
  • Documented minimum of 200 hours commercial or business-relatedremote pilot flight time, of which 50 hours must bepilot-in-command.
  • Overnight travel associated with position may be up to20%.
  • This position may require working in austere conditions as itrelates to emergency management.
  • Ability to travel between UAS ranges and campus locations asneeded.

SALARY: $5,000.00 - $7,333.34 Monthly ($60,000 - $88,000Annually, Approximately)
