1 Remote work and collaboration
The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the shift to remote work and collaboration for many office administrators. This means that you need to be proficient in using various online tools and platforms to communicate, manage, and coordinate tasks and projects with your colleagues, clients, and stakeholders. You also need to be able to work independently, prioritize your workload, and maintain a healthy work-life balance. Some of the benefits of remote work include more flexibility, autonomy, and cost savings, but some of the challenges include isolation, distraction, and security risks.

Indeed. Working from home has its benefits, and Covid 19 has pushed the traditional office ethics in accepting this as a norm for some. In my opinion, On a business perspective, you save on:- Rental- increase in 21st century loyalty (“youngsters” deem this as flexibility and choose to stay in companies that embrace this over pay at times) The cons:- Newbies may start aimless if there’s no proper on-boarding (humans need interaction, either that, or a perfect system)On a personal note:- parents get to stay home and take care of their kids more- save on travel expenses (no more commuting! Except for client meets)The cons:- distractions from your surroundings (kids needing your attention at random times)- may lose focus

Exactly, With the rapid acceleration of remote work due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is vital for office administrators to be prepared for managing remote teams proficiently. I collaborate with a Fully Remote Team. I can identify some pros such as - sometimes very undervalued- TRUST. We trust each other and the management does micromanage nobody. What I can underline as a con, instead, is the coordination of Responsiveness, which is not always prompt and immediate. Thus, I fully believe that people should be eligible to choose in the format which suits them the most.

2 Automation and digitalization
Another trend that is transforming office administration is the increasing use of automation and digitalization to streamline and optimize processes, tasks, and data. Automation refers to the use of software, robots, or artificial intelligence to perform repetitive or routine tasks that would otherwise require human intervention. Digitalization refers to the conversion of information or documents into digital formats that can be easily accessed, stored, and analyzed. Some of the benefits of automation and digitalization include increased efficiency, accuracy, and productivity, but some of the challenges include skills gap, ethical issues, and data protection.

What I really found useful in my daily tasks is prior planning. I use Calendly for meetings,Outlook for events and reminders, and I schedule social media posts and payments in advance. Automatise payments, reminders, events and agenda settings helps to save a lot of time and to minimise issues which may arise in the future.

Automation and digitalization can be indispensable tools for the busy (overwhelmed?) administrative professional. If you deal with confidential information, you need to be sure that your processes for creation and storage of sensitive information have a high level of security. Don't be sloppy with your information. If you have concerns, speak to your supervisor frankly about ways to close the gaps.

As an individual with close to a decade in administrative experience I think digitalization enables seamless collaboration, communication, and access to information across teams and departments, regardless of geographical locations. And that the integration of automation and digitalization in office administration marks a significant leap forward in optimizing workflow management, fostering innovation, and driving organizational success in the digital age.

As an administrative professional, you are uniquely positioned to help foster an atmosphere of respect and inclusion in your department. Whether you are an introvert, an extrovert, or something in between, your smiles and kind words should be a 'way of being', not something reserved for certain people. Approach your diverse department with curiosity and goodwill, and you will likely get the same back and more. Remember, in the midst of great diversity we all still want to feel respected and to belong.

I was a new office manager, at a new exciting startup, in a new city to me (NYC) when I realized the power of networking. I was new to the city and didn't have access to the same connections and vendors I had before. I remember walking down Madison Ave and looking up at the skyscrapers and thinking, "These buildings are full of my people. I NEED to speak to other assistants who know all of this stuff.”When I couldn't find what I was looking for, I built it and The Officials was born. We crowdsource resources and support from our now global community of assistants and admins. Now we train and mentor assistants around the world from some of the biggest companies. Game-changer.
